Marigolds offer more than meet the eye.
As the Baby Boomer Generation reaches their late 50s
and early 60s, the focus has been on visual impairment
and eye health. It's no secret that vision starts to deteriorate
as a result of the aging process, so many Americans are finding themselves
suffering from severe eye problems.
A 2003 study conducted by Duke University reported
that half of American people over the age of 65 eventually
develop one of three major eye diseases: Glaucoma, Diabetic
Retinopathy or Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Chrysantis, Inc. in partnership with Ball Horticultural Company utilizes its harvest of Xanthophyll (zan-tho-phil) Marigolds that produce two important ingredients in the prevention of AMD zeaxanthin (zee-uh-zan'-thin) and lutein (lu-teen). Made into dietary supplements, these substances can help to prevent AMD by keeping high carotenoid levels in the macula of the eye.
